Parallel calling lets you put an active call on hold and start a second outbound call without ending the first. You can switch between the two calls at any time, making it easier to verify information with a third party while keeping your original caller on the line.
How parallel calling works
- While on an active inbound or outbound call, you can dial an external number or contact to start a second call.
- The call you are not actively speaking on is placed on hold automatically.
- You can swap between both calls at any time.
- You can add tags, notes, and assignments to both calls independently.
- You can make multiple consecutive second calls during the same original call (hang up and dial another number), but a maximum of 2 calls can be active in parallel at any one time.
Note: Parallel calling cannot be used with internal calls between Aircall teammates.
Starting a parallel call
Steps:
-
While on an active call, click the + (add a participant) button in the call toolbar.
- Type the number or search for a contact you want to call.
-
Click on Call separately. Your first call will be placed on hold automatically.
-
To switch back to the first call, click the Swap call button.
- To end either call, click the hang-up button on the relevant call card.
How parallel calls appear in the Dashboard
Each parallel call is recorded as a separate call in your call history and in any connected CRM. The two calls are independent entries, not a single merged record.
Tip: If you need all parties on the line at the same time, use the conference call feature instead. Parallel calling is designed for situations where you need to consult a third party privately while keeping your original caller on hold.
